FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 FAQs

  • Yes! We believe that everyone – of all levels – can benefit from learning martial arts and growing at their own pace. Beginners will learn by watching, trying, making mistakes, and getting step-by-step instructions from instructors where needed. More advanced students and black belts will also practice, gain greater learning, and enjoy conditioning provided through classes.

  • You can train with your doctor’s approval as long as you don’t do anything that can worsen your injury. We are happy to modify your training (just ask your instructor for a modification if needed), and you can definitely take it light during classes. However, if you are sick with a cold, cough, flu, headache, fever, fungal infection, or anything else that may be communicable, please do not take in-person classes until you are well.

  • We welcome you regardless of martial arts style or level. If you’ve trained in traditional World Taekwondo Federation/Kukkiwon Tae Kwon Do you will likely be able to retain your belt level given this is the style of training we provide at Action TKD. If you need to work on the basics, if you do not remember any material, or if you trained in a different style of martial arts, we may initially place you at a more basic level. If you have years of training under your belt, you will likely learn and move up quickly.

  • We recommend training at least 2 to 3 times a week in order to learn and retain all the material taught during classes. The more you train and practice, the better you will know the material and the faster you can level up. You do, however, have the flexibility to attend classes and/or take private lessons on the frequency that works best for you.

  • We hold testings once every 3 months and students will be able to test if they have learned and practiced all their material. Students must know and perform testing material with less than 3 mistakes to move onto the next belt level. Understand that each student has their own individual journey – and that’s okay! We have had students who’ve trained almost daily to earn their Black Belt in less than 2 years and for others, it has taken them over 20 years. There is no time clock specific to earning your black belt, but we have found on average it can take up to 4 years depending on your time spent training, attendance, focus, and desire to move up.

  • You are required to wear a uniform for all indoor and zoom classes with Action TKD – even for your first time. If you do not own a uniform, we recommend the following: https://www.goldentiger.com/gtma-tkd-uniform-white-v-neck/

  • For an optimum first-time experience, we recommend attending an indoor or park class. That way you are able to meet the instructor(s) in person and ask any questions that you might have. You will follow along at your own pace for warm-up, conditioning, and exercises, and will be given belt-level instruction when it is time to focus on testing material (which will also be material to practice at home). Please always arrive 5-10 minutes early to allow time to park and join the class on time. We look forward to seeing you!
